With 80-degree days in the past, it may seem like some of the momentum that kept us busy and exploring during summer has faded, but I think that autumn is just as opportune for getting out and adventuring in our region! With the leaves turning, milder temperatures, and still some sunshine to soak in, it’s a beautiful season to get outside and have some seasonal fun. If you want to enjoy all things pumpkin spice, cozy, and magical in one of the state’s most idyllic settings, then plan on visiting Whidbey Island this month for plenty of events to keep you and the little ones entertained. I’ve compiled a list of the top eight October festivities happening on the island.

1. Whidbey Farm and Market

Happening every Friday through Sunday this month, the Whidbey Farm and Market is a great place to stop by for savory delights and family-friendly activities.

2. Pumpkin Patch, Trolley Rides, and More

Pick out the perfect pumpkin for carving right after you hop on the trolley and enjoy a hot cup of cider at Scenic Isle Farm’s Pumpkin Patch.

3. Meerkerk Gardens Forest Walks

Summer is over but I’m still planning on going on plenty of nature walks and hikes with the family—like this one at Meerkerk Gardens.

4. Trebuchet Launching at Kristoferson Farm

Looking for a little excitement and something out of the ordinary? Watch pumpkins soar through the air at Kristoferson Farm’s Trebuchet Launching.

5. Practically Magic

For a positively witchin’ good time, head to Historic Coupeville’s Practically Magic multi-day celebration, with movie nights, a torchlight parade, beer garden, and more.

6. The Great Coupeville Pumpkin Race

It’s off to races in Coupeville—the pumpkin races, that is. This grand finale to the Practically Magic celebrations is wacky, community-oriented, and everything I love about Halloween.

7. Harvest Moon Market

Get your fill of spooky in the haunted barn, win prizes at carnival games, enjoy local fare at the food trucks, and take the little ones trick-or-treating. The Harvest Moon Market has all of the October bases covered in one lively spot.

8. Bayview Farmers Market

Shop local autumn produce and support community craftspeople at the Bayview Farmers Market.
