Over 10 weeks, Seattleites and visitors are treated to over 40 events celebrating the action-packed party that is Seafair, a major festival, air show, and boating extravaganza. Check out my guide to the iconic annual show to make the most out of this quintessentially Seattle event.

History

Created 75 years ago to showcase Seattle as the “boating capital of the world,” the original Seafair was designed to showcase life on the water, with boat races, parades, and more. Although it's evolved and grown into a much larger-scale event than its originators could have anticipated, Seafair maintains its original spirit of community celebration and summer fun.

Family-Friendly Activities

If you’re looking for ways to experience the festival with kiddos in tow, then you’re in luck because Seafair is catered towards all ages. Groove to live music, dine at delicious food trucks, and keep your eyes to the sky and waterways as planes and boats create a dazzling display.

Seafair Airshow

Catch sight of the famous Blue Angels and Golden Knights during the first weekend of August. This is an amazing opportunity for the casual observer or the diehard airplane fan as vintage aircrafts and parachute demonstrations please all who attend.

Torchlight Parade

On Saturday, July 27th, the Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade presents dragon dancers, marching bands, and sports teams. Get there early to grab lunch, a refreshing beverage, and get a good spot to watch the show. Consider parking in one of Amazon’s free parking garages or take the Light rail to make transportation a breeze.

Whether you’ve been attending Seafair events for decades or it's your first time checking out the iconic festival, we hope you have an incredible experience. For more on the event schedule, click here. I hope to see you out and about!
